A minneapolis Original Instrumental multi-genred jazz fusion band
December 1949, a new jazz club named Birdland opens in New York City on 52nd Street. The club's name honors jazz legend Charlie "Bird" Parker. Inspired by Parker's pursuit of artistry, Birdland became more than a club, it became a symbol of something larger than music. Manhattan's 52nd Street transformed into a vibrant community where artists, musicians, and audiences gathered to share ideas, culture, and creative energy. Birdland was a jazz utopia, a refuge where music and art took center stage over all else.
That spirit is the inspiration behind BirdLand. Led by Casey "Bird" Schultz and Robin Hattershide, BirdLand seeks to build community through music and make music through community. More than a band, BirdLand is an Anti-Capitalist social sanctuary where creativity, self-expression, and human connection are valued above profit, status, or algorithms.
BirdLand is a place where authenticity matters more than any online persona. Where art is created simply for its own sake and people can genuinely connect. BirdLand is more than a band. What is BirdLand?
Musically, Birdland’s cross-genre compositions are focused heavily on raw energy and authentic expression. Casey and Robin both remain firmly rooted in the improvisational freedom of their jazz upbringing; however, They also draw heavily on the driving grooves of EDM, the defiance and drive of rock, and the undeniable stank of funk. Birdland employs these influences as a paintbrush, creating auditory imagery and letting the listener to discover their own meaning in the Sound.

Out of the underground raves of the 90s came a guiding set of principles from the edm community. These are the foundational principles that drive Birdland. P.L.U.R. - Peace, Love, Unity, Respect: we believe in inclusivity, kindness, and protecting each other through community.
This includes a hard rejection of the modern digital landscape. We don't believe in social media."The Means of production belong to the whole of society" and we refuse to be packaged as a product and used for free by the rich and 'elite', even if our product is simply good music and good vibes. Finding Birdland through an algorithm doesn't feel authentic to us. Birdland is for everyone.
